Obituary of IKO Executive Advisor, Shihan Yuzo Goda, from Kancho Shokei Matsui

IKO Executive Advisor, Shihan Yuzo Goda passed away on August 12, 2026. He was 86yrs old.
In April 1959, Shihan Goda joined “Oyama Dojo”, which would later become the IKO KYOKUSHINKAIKAN. Under the guidance of Sosai Masutasu Oyama, Shihan Goda devoted his entire life to the development of the KYOKUSHINKAIKAN.
In 1976, Sosai Oyama appointed Shihan Goda as an IKO Tokyo Joto Branch Chief. Ever since,Shihan Goda served the IKO KYOKUSHINKAIKAN in several essential capacities, including chairing the IKO Japan Branch Committee, the IKO Championship Committee, and the IKO International Committee.
When Sosai appointed me IKO Branch Chief, Shihan Goda’s guidance was invaluable in helping me develop my IKO Tokyo Asakusa Dojo. And more importantly, after Sosai Oyama’s passing, and he had bestowed upon me the leadership of the organization, Shihan Goda unconditionally stood by my side to continue Sosai Oyama’s legacy, and stepped up into the role of IKO Executive Advisor for the global IKO KYOKUSHINKAIKAN, a position he held proudly for the past 32 years.
Throughout the decades, Shihan Goda continually advised and guided our organization, and was able to meet and train with many students from around the world. Aside from his international leadership role, Shihan Goda continued teaching daily, and passing on his wisdom and extensive knowledge of KYOKUSHIN spirit and technique to the next generation. Shihan Goda dedicated his entire life to the IKO KYOKUSHINKAIKAN. He was the highest ranking living legend in our organization, his kindness, his passion, and his incomparable spirit, will forever be an inspiration and model for us all.
I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude for Shihan Goda and his achievement and commitment to the IKO KYOKUSHINKAIKAN, and most sincere condolences to his family and his students. We will always remember his warmth and patience. May he rest in peace.
Osu,
Kancho Shokei Matsui
