IKO Russia Branch Chief, Sensei Lasha Gabaraev passed away at the age of 36 on January 21, 2026
Sensei Gabaraev won the All-Russia Championship three times in the -80kg weight category in 2010, 2013, and 2021. He also won the European Championship in the -80kg weight category in 2021. At the age of 21, he made his world stage debut at the 11th World Open Karate Championship in 2011, and subsequently participated in three consecutive World Open in 2015 and 2019, playing a central role as a key member of IKO Russia.
Prior to his illness, he served as an IKO Russia Branch Chief while continuing his active career as a competitor. He dedicated himself to training younger generations of competitors, and producing many talented young athletes. His contributions were significant to the development of IKO Russia and the IKO KYOKUSHINKAIKAN.
