IKO Honbu's traditional Winter Camp was held from January 4th through 6th, 2022, at Mt. Mitsumine Shrine, led by Kancho Shokei Matsui and Shihan Masatoshi Yamada. It has been 2 years since the last winter camp due to the pandemic.

According to a strict safety measure at the shrine, camp participants were limited in number to include only challengers undertaking their Dan promotion examinations, nevertheless, all activities were carried out safely as planned, including the training sessions, Shinto morning prayer ceremony, paying respects to Sosai Oyama's Memorial, and winter waterfall training.

Participants were divided into two groups, the first group attended on January 4th and the second group on January 5th. With small group intensive training, participants benefitted from Kancho's direct personal advice, and Kancho was able to detail specific instruction to each, one on one.

At Winter Camps in the past, Kancho would give a podium lecture to everyone in the evening, but with this year's small group sessions, evenings were more like a gathering of friends. Kancho recalled fondly his many memories and experiences with Sosai, and everyone shared rare moments of reflection together.

On the second day of the camp, all the participants had Shinto prayer ceremony together and paid respect to Sosai's memorial in the early morning. After checking out of the shrine hotel, we all walked down the mountain to Seijo No Taki (Seijo Waterfall) for traditional Taki Abi (Waterfall Training) in the icy waters to complete the camp.
