International Camp and Intensive Course

After the 12th World Open Karate Championships, IKO International Training Camp was held at Mt. Mitsumine from Nov 25 to 27. Due to high demand, the over 300 participants were separated into two groups. The first Group arrived at Mitsumine on Monday, 11/25 and the second Group on Tuesday, 11/26, each for full set of training sessions led by Kancho Shokei Matsui, with Shihan Yuzo Goda, Shihan Katsuhito Gorai, Shihan Kenny Uytenbogaardt, Shihan Stuart Corrigal, Shihan Artur Hovhanyssian and Shihan Fransisco Filho. Participants from around the world ate and trained together in the historical shrine hall and bathed in the traditional onsen therapeutic waters of Chichibu. During the day, Kyokushin Karate-ka from around the world paid their respects to Sosai Mas Oyama's memorial, resting amongst the tall cedars at the top of the mountain, where Sosai began mountain training camps over 60yrs ago.

An IKO Black Belt Intensive Course at Daikanyama Dojo in Tokyo followed Mt Mitsumine camp. Also conducted in two groups, and with a record 80 blackbelt participants over three days, Nov 27 to 29, participants focused on detailed technical analysis and kata breakdown for international instructors in attendance, in particular the many Dan test applicants being examined during the course.
