Competitor's regional allocation: 10th World Open Tournament

We are pleased to announce the detailed competitor selection plan of the 10th World Open Karate Tournament 2011. The total number of fighters to participate will be 192.

Notes: All the competitors must be registered IKO Brown or Black Belt holders.


(1) Top Seeded Competitors
(32):

 [a] Top 8 competitors of the 9th World Tournament:

Ewerton Teixeira, Jan Soukup, Darmen Sadvokasov, Artur Hovannisian, Andrey Stepin, Alejandor Navarro, Eduardo Tanaka, Tatsuya Murata
Notes: If an above fighter withdraws, his spot will NOT be reserved for an alternate from his region.

[b] Top finalist from the following IKO Honbu organized Championships:

* All Japan Open in Tokyo, Japan on Nov 20~21, 2010

* All European Open in Paris, France in March, 2011

* All American Open in New York, USA in June 2011
Note: The above three championships will be open to all IKO members. For example, European members may compete in the All Japan Open and the All American. If they are placed in top 8 in either event, they will be invited to the World Open. Honbu might add a few more championships to this category.

(2) Regional Selection (96):

IKO Honbu and the International Committee Regional Representatives are in charge of the selection process for their respective regions.  Following are the details for each region:
*NOTE:  Selected Regional Team members must possess proof of CITIZENSHIP or PERMANENT RESIDENT status in the region which they will represent. Once a competitor's country is registered to IKO, he is not allowed to
change his registered country for a period of five (5) years. The following quota is subject to change.

1] North America: 8 (Including Central America)
2] South America: 12

3] Asia & Middle East: 16 (Including Central Asia)
4] South Pacific: 8 (Including Guam)
5] Africa:
10 (Including North Africa)
6] Russia: 14
7] Europe: 20
8] Japan: 8


(3) IKO Branch Chief's recommendation (64):

 IKO Branch Chief may recommend their members. However, the following is regional quota for number of possible competitors. (Subject to change)

IKO Honbu must approve all selections, including alternates.

 1] North America: 8 (Including Central America)

3] Asia & Middle East: 8 (Including Central Asia)
4] South Pacific: 8 (Including Guam)
